The ultra-luxury market continues to heat up with new entries from Mercedes-Maybach, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Bugatti, and others showing up all the time. Back in 2015, Volvo showed off its own take on the super-luxe limo with the Volvo XC90 Lounge Concept. The XC90 Volvo based the concept on still wasn’t available in the US- but it was available in China, and China is the capital of modern automotive extravagance.
“People who are on the move and have a hectic lifestyle going from event to event or meeting to meeting need some space,” says Thomas Ingenlath, Volvo’s senior vice president for design. “[They need] some luxury time, and the opportunity to relax and refresh themselves for the next engagement.”
To that end, Volvo removed the XC90’s third row of seats and replaced the center bench with adjustable reclining captain’s chairs. In the concept, they also replaced the front passenger seat with a footrest/shoe storage cubby equipped with a foldaway, 17″ high-definition monitor.
